Abstract
As part of a broader investigation, the results of a study that aimed to know the position of directors of university careers of initial teacher training in Chile regarding the inclusion of urban popular music in the training of teachers of the specialty are presented. Through semi-structured interviews, the discourse of seven directors and career directors is analyzed from the perspective of the two categories generated: Inclusion and exclusion of these types of music. The results reflect tensions between positions close to the "Jesuit" and "conservatory" educational models as well as the "formalist aesthetic paradigm" with positions linked to the praxial philosophical approach. The need then arises to continue deepening the reflection on the inclusion of this music in the initial training of teachers in the specialty, without losing focus on the relevance of considering the contexts and the real educational needs of the student body as a center of educational process.
