Notes on the stay in Chile of Albor Maruenda, the first teacher at the national Conservatory’s Guitar Department.

Abstract

This work includes previously unknown biographical details about Albor Maruenda, the first guitar teacher at the National Conservatory of Music in Chile. Among the new information collected, the background of how he learnt guitar under the School of Tárrega method, as well as his close ties to Chilean artists and intellectuals in the firsts decades of the twentieth century particularly stand out. This review of Maruenda’s work in our country helps to complete his biographical profile and to analyse the effects of his teaching on Chilean classical guitar history.
