Author Guidelines
1. Form and preparation of manuscripts
Entries must be written in Castilian, English or Portuguese and sent in Word format with two summaries (one in Castilian and one in English, Times New Roman 12) with a maximum of one hundred words each and three keywords in both languages. The originals will not be returned to the authors.
The maximum length for articles and essays should not exceed twenty-five pages, single-spaced letter size and include references and examples, graphs, charts and/or photographs. The maximum length for other contributions should not exceed ten pages in the same format, and five for book reviews.
Musical examples should be sent in separate files, written in Finale or a compatible program, jpg or tiff format with 300 dpi resolution, and its location in the text should be clearly indicated.
The citations contained in the text and bibliography should go at the end of the article; ordered consecutively or through a bibliographic index in alphabetical order. Both the bibliographic index like citations in the article or essay must be written as follows: full name or initials of the author in lowercase, publication year, book title in bold, place of printing, publishing and page number(s) where applicable. For example:
Meyer, Leonard B. (1996). Style and Music. Theory, History and Ideology. Chicago: The University of Chicago Press, p. 19.
If a publication has two or more authors, the entry should be made as follows:
Burkholder, J. Peter, Donald J. Grout and Claude V. Palisca (2014). A History of Western Music (9th edition). New York: W.W. Norton & Company Inc., pp. 123-126.
If it is an item that is in a book, the citation should be written in a similar manner; except that the name of the item must be in quotes, and the name of the book in bold. After mentioning the book, it should indicate the editors. For example:
McCreless, Patrick. (2006). "Anatomy of a Gesture: from Davidovsky to Chopin and Back", Approaches to Meaning in Music, Byron Almén and Edward Pearsall (Eds.). Bloomington: Indiana University Press, pp. 11-40.
In the case of a periodical, the name of the journal or newspaper should be italicized and volume, number and pages added. For example:
Caplin, W. E. (2004). "The Classical Cadence: Conceptions and Misconceptions". Journal of the American Musicological Society, 57, n.1, pp. 51-118.
In case of a thesis, the entry must be made in the same way, except that the name of the thesis must be in italics (not bold):
Klein, Michael Leslie (1995). A Theoretical Study of the Late Music of Witold Lutoslawski: New Interactions of Pitch, Rhythm, and Form. Doctoral Dissertation, State University of New York at Buffalo.
In the case of citing the same source twice or more times, (and avoid using abbreviations) the entry should be made as follows:
In the case of books:
Meyer (1996). Style and Music ..., p. 25.
In the case of journals:
Caplin (2004). " The Classical Cadence...", p. 51.
In the case of citations or references to newspapers, the entry should be made as follows:
El Ferrocarril, XIV / 4183 (Tuesday March 30, 1869), p. 2, c. 4.
In the case of citing unedited sources, the entry should be made as follows:
Archivo Nacional Histórico de Chile, Fondo Real Audiencia, vol. 2601, pieza 8. Contra el indio Angelino por el homicidio del indio Francisco, Santiago, 1701, fjs. 158v-159v.
In addition, the acronym that will be used later if the file and background is quoted again should be indicated in parentheses. Along with this, an index of acronyms used must be included in the bibliography. Finally, citing electronic references should be done as follows:
Nettl, Bruno (1995). "The Seminal Eighties: A North American Perspective of the Beginnings of Musicology and Ethnomusicology”, TRANS-Revista Transcultural de Música 1 (Article 3). Retrieved August 15, 2015.
2. Sending of manuscripts
Contributions can be sent at any time of the year to the following emails: revistaneuma@utalca.cl. The work attached must contain the request for publication, the author's name(s), academic degree and institutional affiliation.
